New research shows Evangelical Christians desire a biblical response to immigration reform

A new study released by Lifeway Research and sponsored by the Evangelical Immigration Table (EIT) highlights that Evangelical Christians understand there is nuance in the topics of immigration and the border and desire a political response that addresses both border security and caring for immigrants with compassion. The study shows that a majority (78%) of those surveyed want to see improvements to border security paired with providing an earned path to citizenship for those who are currently in the country without legal status. Additionally, 77% want Congress to act in 2024 to pass significant new immigration legislation.

“Along with broadening support for immigration reform, evangelicals are increasingly viewing the Bible as the most important influence on their thinking on immigration, with 4 out of 5 indicating that they would like to hear a biblically-focused sermon on immigration from the pulpit,” the EIT said in a press release on Wednesday.

President Biden and Donald Trump make separate trips to the southern border on the same day

Both President Biden and Donald Trump are visiting the U.S.-Mexico border today. Biden heads to Brownsville, TX while Trump travels to Eagle Pass, TX. Biden will be speaking with Border Patrol agents before making a speech this afternoon. This trip comes while the Biden administration is considering taking executive action after a bipartisan bill that “represented a promising effort from Republicans and Democrats to work together on serious border and immigration challenges,” according to Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum, failed to pass the House of Representatives.
